Time for fresh pretty spring looks from Karina Dresses!

Karina Dress Review - Audrey in Mod Stripe

And since a gal can never have too many stripes in her closet, I couldn’t say no to this Audrey dress in fun bright mod stripes! Stripes are huge this spring!

Cute with booties and cardi or denim jacket now, it will also look great with sandals when the weather gets warmer.

Do you like the bandana with this look?  I thought it was a fun touch and somehow the whole combo gives me a 60’s flight attendant vibe that I’m loving!

I love a pair of cool shades!  And Winkwood in Australia makes the coolest!

Winkwood Wooden Sunglasses Review

It’s always fun to find a quirky new brand and introduce it to my readers!

(And hey, you can see me in the reflection taking the photo!)

If you’ve been a reader for awhile, you know I have a thing for wood watches, well …. what next? Wood sunglasses!  Introducing Winkwood, a Melbourne brand with a passion for playing with color, design, and creating very unique eyewear!

I’m wearing “Desert Rose” which is carved with durable redwood with a sandy white finish, and a UV-400 lens in a fun pink/orange shade. The glasses are surprisingly lightweight. They come with a on-the-go pouch and a matching carved wooden storage box!

Victoria Beckham X Target Review

$

Well if you’ve been a reader for awhile, you know whenever there’s a Target designer collaboration, I’m going to be waiting at the doors at 8AM when my local store opens to see what’s what!

oria Beckham for Target Review

I’m super happy with this cute orange “Circus Scallops” top that I got, but there were some disappointments also.

My biggest disappointment is that all of the dresses were soooo short! Come on Victoria, you could’ve put a knee-length, midi, or maxi in the mix, right?

Here’s all my super bad dressing rooms selfies, with some comments on each about fabric, fit and sizing.

This is one of the dresses I had my eye on.  It was way too short, I didn’t like the fabric, and it had bunnies on the collar, which I never noticed in the photo. A big no for me anyway! Wearing size small, which was a little tight across my hips.

Victoria Beckham for Target Review

This floral dress was made of really nice scuba fabric and a very cute cut, but again WAY too short for me. Small fit, except for the length.

oria Beckham for Target Review

A drop waist dress in black and tomato red. Super cute, but who looks good in drop waists?  No really … I want to know … who?!

oria Beckham for Target Review

Drop waist with lily print.  True to size.

oria Beckham for Target Review

I decided to try a medium dress. The length was a little bit better, but still too short and definitely too big! I really liked this appliqué though and the fabric was nice.

oria Beckham for Target Review

This orange dress had really nice fabric, though the zipper kept sticking.  And it kind of reminded me of the Flintstone’s!  The small was too big on top.

oria Beckham for Target Review

The shirts  all seemed to run really large.  This button down shirt with the bee print was huge and this is an XS!

This navy sweatshirt was super cute and good quality.  Be sure to size down. This XS fits like a M.

oria Beckham for Target Review

Cute gingham top! If they had an XS I would’ve tried it, but the small was way too big.

I wish they had had the full collection at my Target so I could’ve tried on everything!

Check out Victoria Beckham for Target

Oh and by the way. I don’t have any kids to shop for, but I glanced at the baby and girls outfits and they were super adorable.

Did you buy anything, Dolls? Let me know!

Picadilly!

Hey Dolls, I found a new clothing brand that I’m just crazy about!  Have you ever heard of the fashion forward Canadian brand Picadilly? Check out this amazing dress!

Picadilly Canada Review

Picadilly is a brand created for independent and confident women, who know that age is just a number and doesn’t define them. (Sound like anyone we know?!) Founded in 1975 by Jacob Dombrowsky in Toronto’s Fashion District, Picadilly still makes 90% of their clothing in Canada. Their beautiful styles focus on bold design, vivid colors and novelty treatments. The pieces are trendy, yet timeless, wearable, and flattering.

This cool and unusual dress I’m wearing is part of Picadilly’s Graphic Content for Spring/Summer 17 collection.  The flattering flared dress is made of crinkle tribal print mesh fabric.  How fabulous is that hint of lime green with the black and white? And what about the creative strap detail? I haven’t seen anything quite like this before … and I love it!

Fun Gingham Top!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen this cute gingham top.  And you’ll be seeing it again too!

Shein gingham top with lantern sleeves and bow

Gingham top / Earrings / Culottes / Pumps

Super cute and comfortable and with the lantern sleeves and big bow, it packs a style punch, doesn’t it?  At 5’7″ and long-waisted, I have my usual gripe … I wish it were an inch longer. On most, it will be the perfect length and with these higher waisted culottes it looked just right on me too!

Exact top & earrings.  Exact pants and shoes no longer available, but I’ve listed options.

I also styled the top this way … Originally I liked it, but then thought maybe it had too much of an Ellie May Clampett vibe.  Then laughed thinking that my younger readers will probably have no idea who that even is!

Shein gingham top with lantern sleeves and bow

BTW, these Jambu sandals are the bomb.  So comfy that I actually wore them for a whole day of teaching.

Hope everyone had a beautiful Easter weekend.  I lost a dear friend, so it was a day of sadness for me.  I know her bright spirit lives on. “The trouble is that you think you have time” … time to reconnect, time to say thank you and I love you.  Remember that every day is precious and hold those you love close.

Donald J. Pliner takes spring/summer 2017 to the next level with the #ArtOfFun collection!

Donald J. Pliner #ArtOfFun Spring/Summer 2017

And you all know how much I love having fun with fashion!

I’ve always been a big fan of Donald J. Pliner.  In San Jose we’re so lucky to have one of company’s six special retail stores right here in our Santana Row shopping center, and I never could walk by that store without drooling!

Since 1989, the brand has been known for bold, innovative design inspired by destinations from beaches in Miami, to the bright lights of Vegas, to the sophisticated rooftops of New York City.  Not only is the design on fire, but Pliner also is careful to pay attention to fit so that the shoes are ones you really can’t wait to wear.

In this post, I’m. showing off my Niketa heels in silver and black. Aren’t they hot?!  And they’re even comfortable!

I’d describe this Embroidered Mixed Media Shirtdress from J. Jill as a the epitome of classic effortless style.

J.Jill Embroidered Mixed Media Dress review

Mixed Media?

My first thought when I picked it out was, why is it called “mixed media” … looks like one “media” to me!  Lol!  But it actually is a mix of fabrics. The back panel and sleeves are cotton jersey to provide stretch and comfort, while the front panel is embroidered linen!

How can I wear it?

I went with a casual look with comfy sandals, but it would certainly look divine more dressed up as well.  I also think it would be cute with leggings or cropped jeans!  I added the skinny silk scarf, which is also from J. Jill, and comes in blue paisley or this fun striped pattern. The proceeds of this smart little accessory will go to helping women in need. How cool is that?  I love when do-gooding and shopping go together!

Groovy Kimono, Wearing Boho Over 40

This kimono!  OMG. Loving it.  I told my husband it looks like 70’s upholstery.  He said, “yes … you say that like it’s a good thing.”  Ha … It’s a fabulous thing!  So fun!  Several women asked me where I got it.  I guess I’m not the only one who likes putting some groovy into her wardrobe!

Shein kimono with tribal print detail, boho chic over 40

Exact: Kimono (c/o)/ Sunglasses / Earrings / Girlfriend Bracelet (c/o)

Options: Jeans / Clogs / Bag / Tank / Turquoise Bracelet

Rock Star!

Of course, leave it to my little boho heart so go all the way and add fringe hem jeans, a fringe bag, and even platform clogs. When I went into my local Starbucks (my “Cheers” … everyone knows my name), the gang said I looked like a rock star. Made my day!

These fabulous fringe hem jeans are sold out. I know, I know… but I warned you, didn’t I?  I knew they were too good of a deal and wouldn’t last long.  I did link up some others though.

I’m also wearing my Kendra Scott emerald cat’s eye earrings, and I stacked a Lucky Brand turquoise bracelet with my special Chico’s girlfriend bracelet.

How else can I style it?

This kimono would also look chic with some black pants, wouldn’t it? Flares or bootcut, cropped, cropped flares! And I think it would look sensational with the right belt.  The kimono is even long enough for many of you to wear it as a dress.  Though I would suggest something simple underneath for coverage (or add some snaps)!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram and saw my Insta-story yesterday know that this photo shoot had some issues.  Platform clogs and tall grass don’t really mix and I ended up face down with grass-stained knees as well as a damp camera.  So glamorous! But I’m fine, my camera is fine, and hopefully after a good wash, my jeans will be fine too. You have to laugh at what bloggers are willing to do for a good shot! Ironically, I didn’t use one photo from after the fall.  In all those shots, I looked embarrassed or scared!

Have a wonderful start to your week … and to you month!

Bring on May flowers!

It’s my favorite excuse to shop … Nordstrom Triple Points days!  If you have a Nordstrom card or Nordstrom Visa, you get three times the points when you shop from today until Sunday!  Don’t forget that this would be the perfect time to pick out a gift for Mom for Mother’s Day which is just around the corner!

Of course, it’s also the perfect time to treat yourself to something special!

When my mom was with us, she would buy me a present every Mother’s Day from my pets.  She was the sweetest lady!  So now if I remember, I try to get myself a little something for Mother’s Day.

Just a few ideas for Mom or for yourself:

Review of Karina Dresses’ Nora in Monet, & Link Up!

Not too long ago I was asked which Karina dress style was my absolute favorite. It’s a very hard question for a fan of Karina dresses!  But after some thought, I decided the Nora was my favorite style.

review of Karina dresses, style over 40

Why the Nora?

Pockets!!  I love having pockets when I’m teaching especially. Also the Nora is just a really flattering shape on me. It’s a fit and flare, right to my knees, and it has a flattering bit of gathering at the shoulder. This is my third Nora dress and I wear them all the time!

What other styles?

Of course, I have many other favorite styles.  The Mia with kimono sleeves is a close second. I also really like the longer Margaret. I also love Megan, Audrey, Trudy, and Jackie. The only style I ever sent back was the Penelope because it was a bit short on me.  (Perfect for the more petite ladies though.)

Why Karina Dresses?

I really adore Karina dresses so much and wear mine all the time.  They never wrinkle, so they look good all day long. They are always machine washable and look just as good wash after wash.  High quality, classic flattering styles make them my go-to dresses.  Karina’s dresses are made with love in New York. Karina has classic prints, as well as fresh seasonal options, like this pretty “Monet” abstract flower print.

Pink & Red Rose Print Maxi Dress

Nothing says romantic and feminine like pink and red and roses!

Rose Dress from Shein

Rose Dress – Shein /Pretty red shoes / Delicate Earrings / Chloe Drew bag (Chloe dupe)

Sometimes you want something beautiful and new for a special occasion, but you don’t want to spend too much because you’ll probably only wear it once. I think this gorgeous floral dress from Shein fits the bill perfectly.  Wouldn’t it be lovely at a summer wedding or garden party?

This dress has major coverage, yet still looks light and breezy, summery and beautiful! Wrinkly elbows and knees? Menopause paunch? Crepey décolletage?  All covered beautifully in this dress!

Not that I *personally* have any of those issues of course!

Yeah, right. 😉

Side Note:

Originally I had thought my pretty Fairy slides from Donald J. Pliner would be perfect with this dress, but no, this dress definitely called for heels. The prints do remind me of each other though.  I must be finding my inner romantic lately! Of course knowing me, in my next post I might be finding my inner goodness-only-knows-what!

Hope your week is off to a fab start, Dolls!  I have a busy one ahead of me with lots of end of the year projects going on at school. On the blog, I have a fun giveaway coming up at this week’s Fun Fashion Friday link up party. Be sure to stop by!

Rocker Tees!

The rocker tee trend isn’t for everybody.  But for an old rocker chick like me, it’s pretty fun to wear these “retro” tees that I probably had the first time around!

Rocker tee trend over 40

Where Did I Get It?

This Black Sabbath tee was handmade by a boutique owner on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. I treated myself to it last summer and if you’ve been a reader for awhile, you’ve probably seen it before. But with the rocker tee trend really taking off, I thought if was worth a second look!

Where to Wear it

This trend is just right for a fun casual date night, especially if there’s live music involved!

Lynn Ritchie: Crossed Paths Blouse & Wide-Leg Crepe Pants!

$

My readers know I’m a big fan of Lynn Ritchie designs. Well-made from high quality fabrics, Lynn Ritchie pieces are always a good investment.  On top of that, the designs are always modern and unique!  This season Lynn Ritchie doesn’t disappoint with a sophisticated take on spring trends. Best of all, how pretty do I feel on date night wearing this?!

Lynn Ritchie review, cold shoulder blouse

The Pieces

This colorful graphic Crossed Paths Dolman-Sleeve Cold-Shoulder Blouse is the perfect mature take on the bare shoulder trend.  You can still wear a regular bra with this pretty top and the flowy cut will skim right over a tummy. The top runs large and I’m wearing an XS.

The Wide Leg Stretch Crepe Crop Pants are so flattering, which isn’t always the case with wide leg silhouette.  As a matter of fact, I’ve found that Lynn Ritchie pants are always flattering!  The pants run large and I’m wearing an XS (usually I’m a 4/6).  I also love the pocket detail … flat front pockets with zippers that can be used as actual pockets or kept zipped up for a  sleeker look.  (I can never say no to pockets!)

How Can I Wear It?

I styled this outfit for a date night.  The blouse has so many pretty colors that you can pull out with your accessories.  I think it looked perfect with my pink bag and silver turquoise jewelry.

These pants would also be great for a professional work look.  And wouldn’t the blouse would be cute with jeans in a more casual weekend look?

Madewell High-Waisted Wide-Leg Jeans! (& Link Up!)

When Nordstrom had triple-point rewards at the beginning of the month, I wanted to treat myself to something a little different, so I thought I’d try this new high-waist wide-leg cropped silhouette! Well, I use the term “new” loosely of course … more of a 70’s throwback, right?

Jeans – Madewell High Rise Crop /Shoes – Donald J. Pliner  Ellis /Sunglasses – Illesteva /Sweater –Old Navy  /Bag – Old – Love this Lodis leather tote /Watch – Daniel Wellington Classic Petite /Earrings –Nordstrom hoops

Are they flattering?

Well, it depends on your shape of course. I certainly admit they aren’t the *most* flattering cut for a pear shape like me. But I feel very cute in them, so there’s that! Honestly, my husband said they look “weird.” But you know … men.

How can I wear them?

These jeans have lots of versality. I styled them with one of my go-to combinations, black and white with pops of red. I plan to dress them up for date night with some sassy heels or booties. They also would totally work with flip flops or sneakers for a Saturday casual look.  And best of all, I think they will transition right from spring to summer to fall perfectly.  I’m already planning an fall outfit with knee high boots and a ribbed turtleneck sweater!
